JamesB Hair Colour Care
This guidance is to ensure your colour service is perfect before, during & after your appointment. Not following these aftercare guidelines will invalidate our colour guarantee.
Know your appointment timings: Colour appointments take time for development and applying and washing - Ask your colourist as to how long the appointment is due to take to ensure childcare/parking etc is not an issue on the day, so you can sit back and enjoy your hair experience!
General Advice.
For all colour/bleaching services:
No washing 48hrs after service received.
Wash only in the salon prescribed shampoo & conditioner.
Use any prescribed repair/maintenance masks as directed.
Be aware of face wipes around the hairline as these can lighten colour.
Protect your colour from direct sun: Hats, scarfs, heat protection are all great.
Before swimming, thoroughly soak your hair in clean water from the shower and apply a lightweight conditioner.
Global Application.
Pre-Appointment:
Come to your appointment with clean hair and no products in your hair - no dry shampoo, styling products, oils etc.
Do not use any root cover powders/sprays/products 48hrs before your root touch up appointment. Ensure any products are fully shampooed out before salon visit, if we have to remove any root product before a colour application there will be an additional charge.
Expect the appointment to take 2-3hrs. This includes application, development, rinsing, and cut/finishing timing. Always ask your colourist for an accurate time scale.
Please use any shampoo samples given to you as your last wash before your visit.
Post Appointment:
Revisit Frequency: 2-8 weeks
Warm washes
Wash only in the salon prescribed shampoo & conditioner.
Use any prescribed repair/maintenance masks as directed.
Scalp and skin staining can occur - We will try our best to remove this but be aware in case you are doing something directly after your appointment - It will come off the scalp usually after the first or second home shampoo.
Bleaching services - Scalp, Balayage or Highlights.
Pre-Appointment:
We recommend washing your hair 48hrs before the service, coming to the appointment with your own natural oils (grease) in the hair and scalp: Washing the hair too close to the bleach application can also leave the scalp more vulnerable to irritation from the bleach, and can be more drying to the hair.
Do not use any dry shampoo, waxes or hair sprays, as this can impact on the placement and effectiveness of the bleach.
Expect the appointment to take anywhere between 2 and 6 hours. This includes application, development, rinsing, and cut/finishing timings. Always ask your colourist for an accurate time scale.
If you’re a swimmer, use a clarifying shampoo as this will remove the residual chlorine and elements, which can negatively interfere with the bleaching process.
If your scalp is currently feeling sensitive, inflamed or irritable (skin complaints, sensitivities, cuts/injuries to the scalp) please make us aware before the appointment (ideally 48 hours before). This is as we may need to reschedule the appointment or make changes to the services.
Post Appointment:
Revisit frequency:-
Scalp Bleach: 4-6 weeks
Highlights: 6-12 weeks
Balayage: 2-4 months
Cool/warm washes only (the cooler the better)
Infrequent washes (1-2 per week) for the first 2 weeks; the bleach can be drying to the hair.
Wash only in the prescribed shampoo & conditioner.
We advise to use an at home mask or treatment once a week for bond maintenance; this ensures the strength, integrity and health of the hair, especially if using hot tools regularly. Ask your stylist for your bespoke products.
Lightened hair is more porous than natural hair; this means it can absorb free radicals & elements from anything it comes into contact with (smoke, chlorine/minerals in water, make-up, dirty heated appliances and even tanning solutions). Using the correct prescribed products ensures your blonde will stay bright and clean between appointments.
